Market snapshot
Why it mattered
Reported: Monday's gains partly reversed last week's AI-financing selloff (Trading Economics), but Asia and Europe did not follow: the KOSPI fell 3.73% on chip selling (Trading Economics), and the Nikkei hit a one-month low (Trading Economics). Fed funds futures price about an 83% chance of a hold at the Oct 27–28 FOMC and a 94% chance of a hike in December (Trading Economics).
Our read (commentary, not investment advice): Long yields above 5% and oil near $100 are pulling against the tech rebound. The bounce needs support from earnings.

Business lens
- Dairy (USDA, week ending Oct 10): 40-lb blocks $1.4309/lb (-2.7¢ w/w), butter $1.3600 (-1.0¢), nonfat dry milk $1.9692 (+3.3¢), dry whey $0.7198 (+3.8¢). Barrels: unavailable. Blocks and butter: down four straight weeks. September FMMO all-market average: Class III $16.04/cwt, Class IV $18.94 (USDA AMS). CME spot dairy and Class III/IV futures: unavailable.
- Feed: corn, soybean, soymeal and wheat settles: unavailable.
- Fuel: US on-highway diesel $6.179/gal for the week of Oct 12, down 2.0¢ w/w (EIA).
- Freight: unavailable.
- Rates: SOFR 3.88%, and the 2-year is at 4.77% with markets pricing a December hike, so floating-rate costs are more likely to rise.
Our read: Class IV is above Class III because NDM is strong, even with butter at $1.36. Falling block prices point to a weaker Class III for October. Diesel above $6 keeps hauling costs a margin risk.
